Master of Geographic Information Technology

The MGIT is designed for professionals working in engineering, surveying, geography, planning, environmental science, archaeology, agriculture and forestry.

It will also interest graduates who wish to gain an advanced understanding of the theory, technology and the changing knowledge base in geographic/spatial information technologies, particularly geographic information systems (GIS) and their application.

Graduate Destinations

Graduates find careers in GIS, remote sensing, computer-aided design (CAD) and mapping in a variety of roles associated with land administration, natural resource management, facility information management, environmental management, urban planning and conservation. Our recent graduates have been employed by organisations such as The City of Melbourne, The Electrical Commission of Victoria, The Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Geoscience Australia.

*There are no core subjects for this program, however students with no GIS experience would be expected to take Foundations of Spatial Information and Remote Sensing.


Entry Requirements

  • A four-year undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline

    OR

  • A three-year degree and at least two years of full-time, documented and relevant industry experience.

English Language Requirements

All applicants must meet the University’s English language requirements. The most common requirements for international students are TOEFL 577 + TWE 4.5, Computer TOEFL 233 + 4.5 essay rating, or IELTS 6.5 (written 6.0).
